«The American people—and peoples around the world—expect this house to provide them stability through the inevitable storms of history,» Biden continues in his note.
Biden concluded wishing that «the coming years be times of prosperity, peace, and grace for our nation.»
Joe Biden’s letter, signed on January 20, 2025, was inside an envelope with the number 47, referring to Trump as the 47th president.
The envelope was discovered by Trump on Monday while he was signing his first executive orders, but he chose not to open it in front of reporters.
On Tuesday, Donald Trump described the message as «inspiring» and expressed his gratitude for Biden’s gesture.
«I think it was a beautiful letter… I appreciate it,» the president stated at a press conference.
This tradition of letters between presidents began in 1989, when Ronald Reagan left a message for George H. W. Bush.
